One of the most common questions homeowners have concerning their roofs is whether their roof needs repair. If there are obvious signs of damage, such as missing shingles, then these need to be addressed as soon as possible. But not all damage is obvious. In fact, it is possible for a roof to have structural damage caused by unseen leaks. If this type of damage worsens, you could be faced with significant and costly damage.
If you’re unsure whether your roof needs to be repaired, it’s best to have it inspected. However, before you call a professional roof inspector, you might want to check for these common symptoms:
- Missing or loose shingles
- Uneven or sagging roof portions
- Cracked or curling shingles
- Water stains on ceilings and/or walls
The above situations are indications that your roof is in need of repair and that you should call a professional roofer. Keep in mind though that some roof problems may not be obvious, so the absence of visible signs does not necessarily mean that the roof is in good shape. If you haven’t had your roof professionally inspected in awhile, don’t wait any longer.
Professional roof inspectors will not only check for damage on the roof and its supporting structure, but also signs of mold growth and pest infestations that can damage your home and also pose a health risk to you and your family.
After the inspection, the roofer will most likely recommend roof maintenance measures, such as cleaning the gutters or removing moss on the roof. Depending on the severity of the damage, they may recommend prompt repair or full replacement.
